Monterey, VA & West Virginia – March 1, 2020

On Sunday, March 1st, we did a nice long ramble to Monterey, VA on Rt. 250 West, into West Virginia, and back to VA via Rt. 33 East. 🙂

We were going up–or down–mountains almost the whole time!
After passing through the historic down of McDowell, VA, we started seeing snow along the roads….
The town of Monterery is sometimes called “Little Switzerland.” In a couple of weeks this tiny town will be packed with tourists for their annual Maple Sugar Festival.
The Highland Inn in Monterey is currently being restored. I’m sure it will be magnificent!
We split an entrée at High’s Restaurant in Monterey before continuing our drive.
We drove north towards West Virginia on Rt. 220, which is also called Potomac River Road.
Welcome to West Virginia–where you can really, REALLY get away from it all…..

Back into VA and back down a mountain….
Taking back roads home through the beautiful Shenandoah Valley.
