"Sacred to the Memory of
William Stewardson of Westmoreland County, England
Who departed this life January 23, 1851, Aged 72 years.
If thou my Jesus still art nigh, Cheerful I live and cheerful die
Secure when mortal comforts thee
To find ten thousand worlds in thee."
"Sacred to the Memory of
Sarah W. Stewardson, daughter of William & Sallie M. Stewardson
Who died April 27, 1857, Aged 29 years.
Out of curiosity, I checked in the 1850 Nelson County census. This family was seen on August 2, 1850 and the following information was listed:
Sarah Stewardson, age 57
Jane Stewardson, age 27
Sarah Stewardson, age 22
Samuel Stewardson, age 21
John Stewardson, age 18
Ann M. Stewardson, age 16
Margaret Stewardson, age 14
Cynthia Stewardson, age 13
According to one Stewardson researcher, church records from a genealogy in Little Asby, Westmoreland County England indicate that a William Stewardson was born January 18, 1778, son of James Stewardson II and Margaret Powley. James and Margaret were married November 12, 1767.
I can't verify that this is the same William Stewardson, but it may give researchers some clues to follow.
