Self-Expressive Portrait Masks
Winter 2003

In the fall of 2001, my art students voted to make Self-Expressive Portrait Masks during a three-week "mini-mester." While I hadn't planned to repeat this project during the 2002-2003 school year, new students asked if they would have the opportunity to create these special masks, having seen the incredible work displayed the previous year.

What's a teacher to do?
Adjust the curriculum and go for it!

Finished masks from Winter 2003 are here.
