A couple of years ago, we discussed the possibility of hosting an En Plein Air event at our school, which has 1600 beautiful acres in central Virginia. The concept (as it was presented then) didn't seem right for us, but in the Fall of 2010 we decided to simplify the original idea and just do it!
We were blessed with absolutely beautiful weather and all participants (guest artists, art students, faculty members and friends) had a wonderful time!
On Monday evening following the Saturday event, an exhibit of the works created opened and a reception was held on our campus. One of the best things about it was that all the work was intermingled in the recently renovated space, with student work hung beside the work of the professional artists. Everyone was honored, everyone's work was praised, the guest artists were thrilled (and many sold their paintings) and everyone is asking when we will do this again!
