Know all men by these Presents that we Matthew Rodes & Joseph Mills are held and firmly bound unto Henry Lee esq. Governor or chief magastrate of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the Just and full sum of fifty pounds current mony of Virginia to be paid unto the said Henry Lee and his successors in office to which payment well & truly to be made we bind ourselves Soundly and severally (?) formally (?) by these Presents sealed with our seals and dated this twenty eight day of May 179 four.

The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a marraige suddenly intended to be had and solemnized between the above bound Matthew Rodes and Ann Blackwell. Now if there should be no Lawfull cause or impediment to obstruct the said marriage then the above obligation to be void or else to remain in full force & Virtue.
