Students were introduced to the artform of frescos--painting on wet plaster--and then created small fresco plaques. For historical and cultural background, students studied the work of Michelangelo and marveled at the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
Plaster was mixed according to directions, and then approximately 1/2" was poured into 4" diameter containers.
When the plaster was semi-solid, a paper clip was bent slightly and inserted to serve as a hanger.
When the plaster was firm, but still damp, students began painting designs on their plaques, using watercolor paints.
