Every couple of years, my students watch the movie Labyrinth (and the documentary about the making of the movie) to gain respect for the role of artists in the movie-making industry. They also become familiar with the work of Brian Froud, who designed most of the characters for the film. As always, this movie seems to inspire creative thinking as students design and make a variety of goblins, creatures and characters of their own.
During the 2007-2008 year, students could choose to work strictly in papier-mache' or use papier-mache' and Sculpey to create their sculptures. Some students used a thin layer of Sculpey over a wire and foil armature to create their characters.
