Every couple of years, my students watch the movie Labyrinth (and the documentary about the making of the movie) to gain respect for the role of artists in the movie-making industry. They also become familiar with the work of Brian Froud
, who designed most of the characters for the film. As always, this movie seems to inspire creative thinking as students design and make a variety of goblins, creatures and characters of their own.
During the 2007-2008 year, students could choose to work strictly in papier-mache' or use papier-mache' and Sculpey to create their sculptures. Some students used a thin layer of Sculpey over a wire and foil armature to create their characters.
