A Timeline of Art
Byzantine Art

This stop on the Timeline of Art had students looking at mosaics that were created during the Byzantine period. Byzantine art (also sometimes called "Early Christian Art") refers to artwork made in the Eastern Roman Empire, between about 330 A.D. until 1450 B.C.

Mosaics decorated walls, ceilings, and floors, and while many of this time period featured religious themes, other were simply colorful, geometric patterns.
