Sea Dream
I was floating in a sea of darkness,
Clinging to the driftwood of my dreams.
You offered your love to anchor me--
It was so heavy....
I thought I could hold the weight,
But it set me spinning round.
And you couldn't understand it when I started going down.
Stars above, sea below;
Where was I to go?
Stars above, sea below;
Where was I to go?
So you sent out a silver lifeline
Thinking you could pull me into shore
But a reef was there between us
On the changing ocean floor.
Stars above, sea below;
Where was I to go?
Stars above, sea below;
Where was I to go?
You told me to drop my dreams
And swim to the warmth of your land.
Shallow water inbetween us--
Closest you'd been to sea;
Closest I'd been to sand.
When the stormy weather hit us,
First the line began to fray;
With the rolling ocean current,
Next the anchor slipped away....
Stars above, sea below;
Where was I to go?
Stars above, sea below;
Where was I to go?
Now I'm drifting out to open water,
Driven by the winds and by the subtle tides.
And I wonder if you've found someone
To share your sandy ledge
At water's edge?
