1. WILLIAM5 MARSHALL (WILLIAM4, THOMAS3, WILLIAM2, THOMAS1) was born Abt. 1779 in Calvert County, Maryland, and died Bef. 1847 in Albemarle County, Virginia. He married (1) SALLY RODES Abt. 1800. She was born Abt. 1781, and died Bef. 1833. He married (2) MILDRED MARTIN November 13, 1833 in Albemarle County, Virginia. She died Unknown.

Notes for WILLIAM MARSHALL:

While I have information about the ancestors of William Marshall, I cannot verify the information and will not include it at this time.

After the death of William Marshall's first wife, Sally Rodes, he married Mildred Martin in 1833. After William's death in late 1846 or early 1847 (his will was probated on January 4, 1847 in Albemarle County, Virginia), his widow, Mildred Martin Marshall, sold land (unspecified location) to several of William's children. Named in the deed of January 12th, 1847 were Mildred "Milly" Rhodes & Robert P. Rhodes (my ggg-grandparents), Brice Marshall, Bluford Marshall and Nancy Marshall Howard (all siblings).

I know that Robert P. Rhodes and Mildred Marshall Rhodes were living in Nelson County in the area of the Rockfish Depot by 1850 (according to census records) but I don't know where they lived before this.

2. MILDRED6 MARSHALL (WILLIAM5, WILLIAM4, THOMAS3, WILLIAM2, THOMAS1) was born 1803 in Albemarle County, Virginia (according to 1860 Nelson Co. census), and died Bef. 1878. She married ROBERT P. RHODES/RODES February 20, 1824 in Albemarle County, Virginia (Source: Albemarle County Marriage listings.), son of MATTHEW RHODES and NANCY/ANN BLACKWELL. He was born 1797 in Greene Co. VA (according to the 1860 Nelson County census), and died Bet. 1870 - 1878 in Nelson County, Virginia.

Notes for ROBERT P. RHODES/RODES:

As of this writing, July 27, 2000, I have just learned that the Rhodes lived in Nelson County, Virginia, on the north side of the Rockfish River, and just east of the Rockfish Depot. In a deed dated 1878, T.A. Rhodes Oliver, Eliza M. Rhodes and Mary M. Rhodes sold/gave 143 acres that had belonged to their father to their nephews James Thomas Anderson, Willard O. Anderson and Samuel M. Anderson.

According to census records, however, most of the children of Robert P. Rhodes and Mildred Marshall were born in Albemarle County, so I don't know if the Rhodes family moved or if the boundary lines of Nelson and Albemarle changed.

While I have information about the possible ancestors of Robert P. Rhodes, I cannot verify this information and will not include it at this time.

Notes for CORNELIA EDNA RHODES:

On the grave marker at Hilltop Cemetery, the stone for this woman reads "Edna." While I cannot be absolutely certain that "Edna" and "Cornelia E." Rhodes are one and the same, the information seems to fit from census records. In John W. Anderson's will which was written in 1899 and probated in 1902, he mentions Cornelia E. Rodes. Given that this woman died in 1904, that fits in as well.
