This indenture made this 6th day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty four, between John W. Anderson of the first, and Anthony Hatter, John H. Carter, Preston Smith, Chas. W. Jones and John Mickin trustees of Fork Union Colored Baptist Church of the second part. Witnesseth, that the said party of the first part, in consideration of the sum of Twenty five dollars in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the said party of the second part, all that piece or parcel of land situated in Nelson County, Va. And bounded as follows, to wit: Beginning at a rock on the edge of a branch, thence to a rock in a straight line sixty one steps SW, thence 14 steps SW to the main road and thence with the main road NW to the beginning, and supposed to contain about one eighth of an acre. The said land adjoins the lands of W. L. Williams and other lands of the said Jno. W. Anderson. The land aforesaid is sold on consideration that the party of the second part nor any one deriving title from or through them shall use said land for any purpose, other, than for the sole & separate use, benefit and behoof of the Fork Union Colored Baptist Church; and in case the said party of the second part should ever offer said land for sale, the party of the first part or his heirs is to have the refusal. No public free schools or schools, except Sunday Schools are to be taught on said land. A failure to comply with the said conditions will make null and void this deed. And the said party of the first part for himself and his heirs, Executors and Administrators, does covenant, grant, bargain and agree to and with the said party of the second part, and their heirs and assigns, the said party of the first part shall and will warrant and forever defend. In witness whereof the said party of the first part has hereunto set his hand & seal, the day and year above written.

I, Jno. S. McClain, a Justice of the Peace, in and for the County aforesaid, do certify that Jno. W. Anderson whose name is signed to the writing hereto annexed, bearing date on the 6th of March, 1884, personally came before me and acknowledged the same to be his deed.
