&#8211; Curtains for the Scamp&#8230;."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a previous post, I said I needed to wash the curtains as part of our preparation before camping&#8230;.\u00a0 Well.\u00a0 To re-cap, three years ago I was motivated to learn to sew when I wanted to make curtains for the trailer.\u00a0 I bought an older Singer sewing machine from a seller on Craigslist, bought and pre-washed some fabric I liked, and spent a crazy week or so trying to figure out how just how to do such a thing.\u00a0 In the end, however, I had functional&#8211;if not perfect&#8211;curtains for our Scamp.\u00a0 Yay, me!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Sharon-071215-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-225\" src=\"https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Sharon-071215-1-300x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Sharon-071215-1-300x240.jpg 300w, https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Sharon-071215-1.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I knew the backing fabric on the curtains had faded over the last 3 years, but I didn&#8217;t realize just how <em>badly<\/em> it had faded until I took them down to wash them.\u00a0 Um, yeah.\u00a0 This was navy blue at one point?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/2018-0429-Curtain-Faded-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1025\" src=\"https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/2018-0429-Curtain-Faded-2-300x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/2018-0429-Curtain-Faded-2-300x240.jpg 300w, https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/2018-0429-Curtain-Faded-2-768x614.jpg 768w, https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/2018-0429-Curtain-Faded-2-1024x819.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/2018-0429-Curtain-Faded-2-100x80.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To make these look better&#8211;and to increase their light-reducing capabilities&#8211;I decided to add &#8220;blackout&#8221; fabric to the back of each curtain panel.\u00a0 Seemed simple enough (she said, naively).<\/p>\n<p>It actually worked pretty well for the smaller curtains on the sides of the trailer.\u00a0 I sewed the blackout fabric directly to the back of the curtains between the hems.\u00a0 Perfect?\u00a0 No, but functional.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/2018-0429-Curtain-BlackoutAdded.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1026\" src=\"https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/2018-0429-Curtain-BlackoutAdded-300x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/2018-0429-Curtain-BlackoutAdded-300x240.jpg 300w, https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/2018-0429-Curtain-BlackoutAdded-768x614.jpg 768w, https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/2018-0429-Curtain-BlackoutAdded-1024x819.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/2018-0429-Curtain-BlackoutAdded-100x80.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When I took a good look at the <em>larger<\/em> curtain panels for the front and back windows, however, I just wasn&#8217;t sure that this was going to work at <em>all<\/em>.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude41\u00a0 Since these curtains were SO uneven and SO frayed when they came out of the washing machine (I didn&#8217;t know, at the time, to turn under raw edges!), I decided to rip out the seams and start over.\u00a0 <em>That&#8217;s<\/em> when I realized that I&#8217;d used the absolutely tiniest stitch length <em>ever<\/em> when I&#8217;d made these, and there wasn&#8217;t going to be a good way to pick apart the seams in this lifetime&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>Okay, fine.\u00a0 I&#8217;d recently seen the same fabric in a store, so I figured the best solution would be to buy more of it and totally re-make the front and rear curtains&#8211;with the blackout lining put in correctly.\u00a0 I made a late afternoon trek over the mountain to the store, and&#8211;SURPRISE!&#8211;the fabric was no longer available.\u00a0 Not good.<\/p>\n<p>Since I was facing the prospect of making new curtains, I figured I might as well change it up a little bit.\u00a0 I bought a bold, colorful, and wildly floral indoor\/outdoor fabric that I thought would be cool to use for our &#8220;bathroom&#8221; door, and a solid medium blue fabric for the new curtains.<\/p>\n<p>As large as the floral fabric was, I knew I&#8217;d need room to spread it out and cut it, so I took it to my classroom at school.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/2018-0501-1-CurtainFabric.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1027\" src=\"https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/2018-0501-1-CurtainFabric-240x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/2018-0501-1-CurtainFabric-240x300.jpg 240w, https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/2018-0501-1-CurtainFabric-768x960.jpg 768w, https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/2018-0501-1-CurtainFabric-819x1024.jpg 819w, https:\/\/art-rageous.net\/Soul-Journer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/2018-0501-1-CurtainFabric-80x100.jpg 80w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Two and a half yards of 54&#8243; wide fabric = a LOT of fabric.\u00a0 \u00a0In and around my classes, I was able to get it measured and cut to size.\u00a0 I stayed after school to sew the side seams and the top rod pocket, thinking I could &#8220;simply&#8221;
