Nelson County, Virginia Deed Book 9, p. 39
This Indenture made this 21st day of August One thousand Eight hundred & Thirty nine Between Wiatt Jones and Mary his wife of the County of Nelson and State of Virginia of the one part and Willis R. Plunkett of said County and State of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Wiatt Jones and Mary his wife for and in consideration of the sum of Twelve hundred Dollars, lawful money of Virginia, to them in hand paid by the said Willis R. Plunkett at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged. We the said Mary [Wiatt] Jones and Mary his wife, hath grant, bargained sold, aliened on feoffed and confirmed, and by these presents doth grant bargain sell alien en feoff and confirm unto the said Willis R. Plunkett his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land, laying and being in the County of Nelson on hat creek, and supposed to contain three hundred and thirty seven and a half acres, be the same more or less, this land lays on the head waters of Hat Creek in the County of Nelson and is a part of the lands the said Wiatt Jones purchased of William Akers and his wife and adjoins the lands of W.R. Plunkett, See W. Harris, D.S. Garland, Robert rives, Hezekiah Jones. To have and to hold the same, with all its appurtenances of every kind whatsoever, and the said Wiatt Jones and Mary his wife for themselves and their heirs, do hereby warrant and forever defend the right and title to the above mentioned tract or parcel of land to him the said Willis R. Plunkett and his heirs forever, from from the claim or claims of all persons whatsoever. Nelson County to wit–
We Thomas Massie and Edmond F. Coffey, Justices of the peace for the County aforesaid and in the State of Virginia do hereby certify that Wiatt Jones and Mary Jones parties to a certain deed bearing date on the 21st day of August One Thousand Eight hundred and Thirty nine and hereto annexed personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be their act and deed, and desired us to certify the said acknowledgment to the Clerk of the County Court of Nelson in order that the said deed may be recorded. Given under our hands and seals this 24th day of August 1839.
