Students studied the work of Michelangelo and marveled at the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel while learning about frescos, which are paintings on wet plaster.
To help them understand the process, plaster was mixed according to directions, and then approximately 1/2″ of this material was poured into 4″ diameter containers. When the plaster was semi-solid, a paper clip was bent slightly and inserted to serve as a hanger.
When the plaster was firm–but still damp–students used watercolors to paints designs on their little plaques.
