The Children’s Cloth of Many Colors was a project inspired by a peace event in the Secretary of the Army’s conference room at the Pentagon, September 22, 2000. This project was modeled after a “peace cloth” which was over a mile in length, and contained sections from 33 countries.
A group in Charlottesville, Virginia took on the task of having all victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks represented in a “cloth of many colors” and asked local school children if they would like to be a part of this project.
Ten students at my school chose to participate, and their squares were joined with those of other students and displayed at a concert in Charlottesville on June 24, 2002. The Children’s Cloth of Many Colors was featured in The Masters Group’s Peace Event on the Smithsonian Mall in Washington D.C. on September 11th, 2002.
