April 2, 1822
This Indenture made this 2nd day of April one thousand eight hundred and twenty two, between Matthew Rodes of the County of Albemarle and State of Virginia of the one part and Charles Yancey Sheriff of the same County and State of the other part. Witnesseth the said Matthew Rodes for and in consideration of an execution issuing from the General Court of Richmond in behalf of the Commonwealth against the said Rode’s body and the said Rodes availing himself of the benefit of the insolvent debtors oath, and by his Schedule having surrendered all his land estimated and nine hundred and forty six acres it being all the land the said Rodes is possessed of; and is in two several tracts or parcels (to wit) one tract contains three hundred and Eighteen acres bounded by Garrison, Ballard, Thompson and others, And one other tract containing Six hundred and twenty eight acres, bounded by Rogers, Norris, Douglass, McCullock and others, both tracts lying in the County of Albemarle on both sides of Mormans River and on its waters, the transfer and conveyance he doth hereby grant and confirm unto the said Charles Yancey Sheriff as aforesaid and his successors in office for the use of the Commonwealth, to have and to hold the aforesaid tracts or parcels of land with all and singular the appurtenances unto the said Charles Yancey Sheriff as aforesaid and his successors in office for the use of the said Commonwealth forever, without any disturbance of him the said Matthew Rodes or his heirs or any other person or persons whatsoever Claiming under him or his heirs forever. In Witnesseth whereof the said Matthew Rodes hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first above written.
