Winter Stars

The winter stars are turning, turning in the onyx night;
You named the constellations, lending order to their light.
Orion, mighty hunter's overhead;
He wanders through this moonless night
        When sleep eludes my bed.

How many nights I've watched the slow parade across the sky;
How many nights the thought of you has wandered through my mind.
I loved you with a love that burned as bright
As the sparkling constellations
        On this frozen winter night.

               Some say Orion met his death when Artemis let fly
               An arrow fired mistakenly that took her lover's life
               And in her grief she set his image in the stars above--
               An eternal symbol of ill-fated, star-crossed love.

The winter stars are turning, turning in the onyx night
You named the constellations, lending order to my life.
I loved you, but I could not hold your heart
Now I'm burning through the darkness
        And I'm falling like a star....
