Last Song of Summer

I guess this is the last song of the summer;
The days are slipping quickly into fall.
The time we had together is now over
And in every autumn breeze I hear you call.

   The days are getting shorter;
   The nights, they are so long,
   The mountains are a dusty shade of blue.
   And I wish that I could touch your face
   And see your glowing smile,
   But I only have my memories of you.

I wish that I had told you that I loved you;
Perhaps that would have changed your point of view.
But you sensed so many things I'd left unspoken,
So in your quiet way, I think you knew.

   The days are getting shorter;
   The nights, they are so long,
   The mountains are a dusty shade of blue.
   And I wish that I could touch your face
   And see your glowing smile,
   But I only have my memories of you.

The constellations wind eternal circles;
The stars we watched this summer are now gone.
But maybe like the cycles of the seasons,
We'll meet again and find our loves' new dawn.

   The days are getting shorter;
   The nights, they are so long,
   The mountains are a dusty shade of blue.
   And I wish that I could touch your face
   And see your glowing smile,
   But I only have my memories of you.

I guess this is the last song of the summer,
And the last song of summer is for you....
