A Timeline of Art: Greek Art
The Potter's Wheel

As our focus for this part of the Timeline was on Greek mythology and pottery, students had the opportunity to use the potter's wheel.

Students used Laguna Ovencraft clay (as our kiln is not currently functional) to craft small wheel-thrown pots. While they were using an electric potter's wheel, we all marveled at the fact that craftsman have been using the same basic techniques to make wheel-thrown pottery for thousands of years!

While waiting their turn on the wheel, students also experimented with coil pottery techniques.

While this segment of the unit was brief, the students quickly learned that working with clay is fun!

They also used small amounts of clay to craft tiny animals.
