Charcoal Drawings

After experimenting with vine charcoal, compressed charcoal and charcoal pencils, Art 2 students began a series of "practice" drawings on white sulphite. A variety of black and white photographs of still life arrangements were available for them to use as reference.

Students were encouraged to do several drawings in their week and a half of practice time, focusing on using a full range of values, as well rendering correct form and proportion.

Students selected one of their drawings to turn in for an in-class homework grade before starting to work on an observational still life drawing project of their choice.
