*I rechecked this deed on July 25, 2000 when I was at the Nelson County Courthouse. While I saw it in the deed book and copied lines that were missing on my previous xeroxed copy, I still feel that it is incorrect in terms of the acreage. There is no way in the late 1800s that 4.5 acres of land would be valued at $600, and the boundaries of the land mentioned in the deed seem to indicate a much larger tract. It is more likely that 450 acres were involved in this transaction, but that is not what I saw in the deed book.
All I can do, for now, is add this disclaimer. When I go to the Courthouse again (whenever that might be…) I will ask to see the original deed to try to determine the correct amount of land.
